Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

This video incorporates my collection of physical objects that embody pieces of wisdom from my culture. It is also a parody of Steve Martin’s The Jerk (go to the 1:50 mark), though instead of hoarding unnecessary things I think I need (a traditional pattern of my culture, as seen in The Jerk), I am taking the things I truly WANT.

And in this instance, they are all items that are not only important to me, but important, I believe, for future generations. Hence, "The Elder." The items, also echoing the challenges we face in the world today, are:

1) Deck of Cards (social innovation) - an item from my grandfather that is a reminder to have fun and enjoy life; and in another sense, as Jane McGonigal has said, "Gaming can change the world"
2) Corn husker (food security) - this is another item from my grandfather, something he used in the fields and embodies hard work and security for family and others
3) Pillow (power shift) - though not used in the traditional sense of energy and power, the pillow symbolizes a reminder to revitalize the earth and our bodies
4) Reusable water bottle (water crisis) - need I say more?
5) Wallet (future of money) - perhaps the item I use the most, it represents the many ways in which we can exchange resources with one another (such as my neighbor giving me batteries for my camera in order to film this movie)
6) Ring (empowering women) - this specific ring was one made by an ancestor of mine in a Civil War prison...talk about social change and empowerment
7) Reusable shopping bag (urban resilience) - such innovation represents planning and resourcefulness

And even my shirt and hat are an embodiment of what I wish to share: be colorful :)

And unfortunately, like Steve Martin "having" to leave in The Jerk, being displaced is something too common for too many people and cultures around the world.

Thanks. And I look forward any future films of yours

I did see you had previously posted a video from the Story of Stuff...that style is a type of video I'd ultimately like to experiment with

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
