Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

=====Breaking News======

 There are now 8 teacher projects, and we're starting to make tracks. Come sign up for one -- see the wiki for details!

=====================

There have been many posts in other threads about getting a group of teachers together here on EVOKE. I'd like to pull us together. Here's my suggestion:

1. In this thread, post who you are and what you teach -- or, if you're a teacher-type but not actually a teacher, like me, tell us what you do. Tell us also where you're from!

2. Check out the google doc that happyseaurcin started -- it has ideas about how to engage teachers in EVOKE.

3. Take a look at the wiki (http://urgentevoke.wikia.com/) and visit the Calling All Teachers page. Add your name (and a link back to your EVOKE profile, if you like) if you'd like to collaborate. If you have an idea for a project, add it to the brainstorming section.

Let's see if we can get traction over the next couple of weeks and maybe pick an idea or two to develop more fully!

** Posted in grateful acknowledgment of everyone who added comments to the collaboration page, with hopes that this thread makes it easier for us to find each other. **

Hi Rebecca, and welcome! We'd be very glad for any contributions you would like to make to the curriculum as we develop it. If there's anything you'd like help with, too, please ask.

I want to connect you with Agent Nicholas Nagao -- I see he has commented on your blog already, and you have perhaps seen his -- but what you may not know is that Nicholas expressed an interest in helping to build a digital platform like this. I'd love for the 3 of us to get that started, along with anyone else who wants to help! I have a background in teaching and also in interface design for educational software, so together with Nicholas' techie chops and your experiences with the GIN events plus your ideas for how to structure the digital platform, I'm sure we can come up with something awesome. Let's do it!
my EVOKE name is nomadHAR, and education/pedagogy is one of my great passions.
i have worked as a teacher and educational researcher in three countries; USA, Japan and England.
i have taught levels ranging from elementary through undergraduate and adult/continuing education.
subject i have taught include English, ESL, Computer Science, Math, Guitar/Bass Guitar, Music, US History, Ethics and Street Law.
one universal idea i have kept to heart: students, especially younger students, need guidance and protection. they are people with rights that must be upheld, even if it means going head-to-head with the school, the district, the government.
Hi nomadHAR, and welcome to the education corner! If you'd like to join or start a project, please check out the wiki. Glad to have you here!
The first of two podcasts is up (on Teachers Teaching Teachers) in which students and teachers reflect on Evoke: http://ning.it/b6wHwe Please let us know what you think! http://ning.it/c54ma2 Featured on this episode (evoke names): Ninmah, Robin Clark jr, Paul Allison, Chris Wood, Susan Ettenheim
Hi All,
I'm a teacher trainer out in Seattle. I like this idea and am excited about this discussion. Here's more about my organization and the work I do.

Hi Cat, and welcome! Glad to have you in the teacher group. Your work looks very interesting, and I can tell that you love what you do!
Thanks for the welcome! I'm really excited to see so many teachers on Evoke.
Any chance you have figured out if there is any way to tell exactly how many teachers there are? I've requested that we, the players, have the ability to make this Evoke game a living 'game' in that we can suggest and create changes as we go to help the platform help us evoke better. For instance, I'd love to search for teachers through the Evoke network and connect with them.

I do not know of a way to do that -- I keep finding teachers accidentally, which is great, but it'd be nice if we could "tag" ourselves with our different roles so that we could find each other and communicate more easily. Sounds like a feature suggestion ;-)
I just added a discussion with a podcast with students and ninmah and SuzieBoss http://ning.it/cqtJTc More this Wed. 9 p.m. Eastern http://ning.it/bJAZOS

Please consider joining us on this Wednesday's Teachers Teaching Teachers. With Skype, you can join us in the conversation!

Join us at http://EdTechTalk.com/live at 9:00pm Eastern / 6:00pm Pacific USA Wednesdays / 01:00 UTC Thursdays World Times

Calling All Gardeners!
We are putting together a webcast all about communty gardens -- and especially Urban ones -- for this Wednesday at http://EdTechTalk.com/live at 9:00pm Eastern / 6:00pm Pacific USA Wednesdays / 01:00 UTC Thursdays World Times

Do you think you can make it again? And do you think you could put the announcement out over your network? We'd love to talk to anyone with a garden who is playing Evoke! Alternatively, you could suggest people, and I'll contact them.

THANKS so much!!

We will be the second hour of a 24-hour Live Earthcast. We'll be up just after Jason Czarneki talks from China.

I have also invited a teacher from the Lower East Side of Manhattan who teaches Chinese students in her ESL cla**** and they are growing plants after reading Seedfolks, by Paul Fleischman.

I hope you will be able to join us! All you need is a Skype name, microphone and earphones. Please let me know if you can come!

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.

Where I will be in ten years.

Ten years from now I will be in a political job assisting with people in the midlands of South Carolina particularly the rural working class and farmers. As the class of people that feed the nation I find that it is imperative that we assist with making sure they produce as much food as possible. I would like to support local scientists as well that are leading in research on how to produce food more efficiently. I will also be participating in missions to foreign countries to help people with…See More

India Water home

The secret was living on the water via boats common in many developing countries like Myanmar. This is a real Indian boat home made of wood and this provides a shelter for many peoples around the world.
