ACT-4 (Clean and Safe Water in Deserted District of Tharparkar)
As provision of safe and clean water has been a big challenge for Pakistan but the worst case scenario is concerning District Tharparkar Sindh. The reason can be attributed to the very low rainfall or some times no rainfall at all throughout the year which has posed serious problems to the community. The land has no fertility, the sub soil water is very deeply hidden and is salty too which can not be used either for drinking or for agriculture purposes. Tackling this problem, local community is collaborating their efforts for using indigenous knowledge for making available water to community. Lots of local solutions are being used to fetch the deep and underground water. Micro tube wells are also one solution they are using it for having drinking water on the basis of shared investment of local population and government/non government organizations. Thardeep Organisation is one of the local initiatives working to strengthen the indigenous solutions to water. Coordination with these local organizations have gained lot of ground on water access to community specially poor in the area.
