The Koru depicts new beginnings, growth and harmony, taken from the symbolism of a unfurled silver fern leaf. The meaning for the single twist represents the path of life, it is the eternity symbol. The single figure eight represents the joining together of two people, and although people move away, their journey of life will have their paths cross again. The heart indicates emotional balance, love, generosity and compassion.
Aroha can be translated as "unconditional love", and it stands for the utmost respect for fellow human beings.
I have included the Koru in my heart on this rock, if you have a look you will see the spiral shape there in the heart. I chose these three symbols as the Maori ideas I hope will live on forever. The Maori are a community/family centred people and I think this knowledge of theirs is important to remember. I am a strong believer in the love between two people and the ability of that love to bring them back together... I don't want the idea of 'true love' lost =)
As well as true love there is also a community love and respect for one another that has to be preserved if we want our world to change for the better. For change to happen we need to grow in harmony as we begin our jouney forward.
