He is director of Innovations in International Health (IIH) at MIT. He develops and tinkers with medical devices specifically made for use in developing countries.
In the developing countries most medical devices are provided by donations of equipment made and produced for the same developed countries that donated them. This equipment is often quite inappropriate for the circ***tances in a third world country. It's fragile, difficult to use and hard to fix. Jose works on solving these problems using his ingenious inventions.
