A crash course in changing the world.
I chose the Dutch nightclub "Club Watt" in Rotterdam which is one of the first or maybe even the first sustainable nightclub in the world. The special thing about it is, that every step and every movement of the people dancing produces energy which is transformed into electricity (due to the piezoelectric effect). This electricity is used to power the light show which mainly consists of LEDs or low-energy bulbs. In Addition, the toilet flushing is done with rainwater and the guests are drinking out of recycable cups which are refilled multiple times, if possible (of course, one cup always belongs to the same person).
All these things lead to 50% less energy use and 30% less water use in comparison to the previous club in the building. The owners of the club decided to go this (environmentally friendly) way even if it's financially inefficient (just the dance floor cost about 257.000$ - it will take lots of years to amortize). I think, this is an exemplary attitude towards the environment and the global warming. People will always be dancing, so why shouldn't we use the energy which is produced that way?
