A crash course in changing the world.
Inspired by a snowballing social media discussions, a group of independent activists joined together and built up Egypt's fist human chain against sexual harassment. The approach is simple but compelling, aimed to get support in Cairo and beyond. However, I'm saddened that those women in the photos are so helpless and powerless with nothing but one piece of paper in hand. But after further investigation, I found out that, besides this kind of campaigns with more emotional elements, there are also interventions approached like establishing female councillor-led committees for effective response to sexual violence and crimes, increasing street lights in high-risk areas and training of community police units, all in frame of the five-year program "Safe and Friendly Citys for All", approached by UNICEF, UN-HABITAT and UN Women.
