A crash course in changing the world.
In April 2020, the Studento currency launched at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. This currency is used on campus only for student-government owned goods and services. Each student is provided with 10 upon entering the university by the student-union government.
It is part of a new initiative on campus to enhance school community and build friendship between students, which had been lacking in previous years.
It is also possible to acquire additional currency from the student union government for voting in elections, joining a club, and for volunteerism.
The benefits of this new currency are still being evaluated as other schools in the area debate creating their own version.
