I was reading thsi article. AND there is quote that caught my attention " city is already taking to increase its resilience. Most major cities today have websites or online reports dedicated to the topic of urban resilience. Many others smaller cities have web pages dedicated to resilience topics like disaster response, civic engagement, local food supply, or "green" reform".

I was reading this article ans this caught my attentio0n " women have come a long way since the Equal Pay Act of 1963 and the Civil Rights Act of 1964, but even today they earn roughly 23 percent less than men and make up only 3 percent of the Fortune 500 chief executives. It is, however, in the MENA region that the gap between the rights of men and those of women has been the most visible and severe." Continue

I was reading this article and this quote caught my attention " Alternative means of trade often surface during tough economic times. "When money gets dried up and there are still needs to be met in society, people come up with creative ways to meet those needs," says Peter North, a senior lecturer in geography at the University of Liverpool and the author of two books on the subject. He refers to the "scrips" issued in the U.S. and Europe during the Great Depression that kept money flowing and… Continue

Thoughts

I was reading this article called Violence and Women and I found this quote interesting. “I

never tried to go to the police to complain about my husband's criminal

acts, because he threatened to kill me if I did,” Nahla told IRIN. “And

I never went to complain to any women’s rights organizations because I

didn’t think they would be able to solve my problem - and I was also

scared that my husband would…

Something

Something that was interesting was "By actively involving the local population in both the research and

analysis, we identify their existing methods for managing crises, which

then helps us develop appropriate food security strategies. In some

cases, there are good coping mechanisms in place that should be

encouraged and reinforced—for example, a communal network of mutual

support. In other cases, existing methods may have future negative

consequences and should be… Continue

Something interesting I read was "the food fight takes place at a time when

experts on both sides agree on one thing -- the number of empty bellies

around the world will only grow unless there is major intervention now.

A combination of the food crisis and the global economic downturn has catapulted the number of hungry people in the world to more than 1 billion. The United Nations says world food

output must grow by…

I was reading this article. And something that I found interesting is where it said: "sometimes, the work of food security begins immediately after a natural

disaster, when the infrastructure and food supply of an otherwise

healthy community has been destroyed. In these instances, our efforts

may include emergency distributions of food, cash, and other essential

items to prevent outbreaks of severe malnutrition in the short-term, and

to ensure that crops can be… Continue

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ***tances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.

Where I will be in ten years.

Ten years from now I will be in a political job assisting with people in the midlands of South Carolina particularly the rural working class and farmers. As the class of people that feed the nation I find that it is imperative that we assist with making sure they produce as much food as possible. I would like to support local scientists as well that are leading in research on how to produce food more efficiently. I will also be participating in missions to foreign countries to help people with…See More
