Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

This is a pretty difficult one to think of, and - unfortunately - even more difficult to make real! Unfortunately, I don't have the materials or skills to put this together (let alone take a photo or video of it), but I'll try to explain what I had in mind as best as I can.

I spend a lot of time - probably too much time - on my laptop, and to be honest, not enough of that laptop time is spent doing homework. Usually, I'm just watching a movie, or clicking on people's profiles on facebook; nothing all too productive... however, we saw the examples of the dancefloor that lighted up according to movement and the soccer ball that created energy when it was kicked. When we type, this is also a type of kinetic energy - especially when we're viciously trying to fill in the 1,500 words of an essay due next morning! Do you see what I'm getting at? Typing on our laptops should generate the laptop's energy. You may say this is all very well and good, but that we are certainly not always typing - we need to do some clicking around, scrolling and browsing for research as well. But let's say that there was a certain amount of characters that needed to be typed to power the computer each hour. So, let's take 500 words an hour. If you type 1,500 words, this will generate enough energy for the laptop to work for three hours. If you type 500 words, the laptop will have enough energy to work for one hour. It's quite simple really, and although I'm no expert, I assume that through working with computer programmers and engineers it would be possible (although maybe not in terms as ambitious as mine).

So apart from a laptop generating its own energy (which would be wonderful, because imagine how much power is sucked up from people constantly charging their notebooks!), it would also make us more productive. It would make me do my homework!! Time that I would want to spend on the computer but not working would not be used up by silly YouTube videos: rather, this would encourage me to go to platforms like this, share ideas, and become a social innovator! Start a blog advocating and inspiring sustainability! Send e-mails to friends and keep in touch with relatives through instant messaging! We can do so much by typing on our keyboards; it's the reason we have laptops. To type. So wouldn't it be perfect if this could be employed to power the keyboards themselves?!

Well, typing alone wouldn't create a ton of power. But it could help offset power consumption of the device. So would carrying the laptop around - imagine a microgenerator that created power every time you slipped the laptop into and out of its case!

You're clearly on the right track. All kinds of ways to capture human energy. Keep generating ideas like these!

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development.The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
