Today my science class went to the school’s community garden and worked for an hour and a half. First we picked all the weeds out of a vegetable bed, shoveled the top two inches of “spent soil” out and dumped it into piles which will later be used for planting artichokes in another area. New, fresh mulch was then added to the bed and it was ready to have more plants grow in it. We spent the rest of the time pulling invasive and quickly spreading weeds from around the base of newly planted fruit trees. We all had a good time and at the end ate lemons with honey that grew in the garden.
