Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

The first hero I want to write about is Brian Conley.

You may not have heard of him, but for the last years he has been doing impressive work in helping reports from hot zones around the world reach us. Unfiltered, co-created by locals, raw at times.

His first video project that I became aware of was "Alive in Baghdad". For a few years, they sent out videos from Baghdad and surrounding areas. Videos most often shot by locals. Brian Conley believes that instead of the western media just travelling to the hotspots in order to say "... and this is Live from Baghdad" or similar - we should listen to the actual people who are living there. The ones who are, for instance, Alive in Baghdad.

AiB is unfortunately not active anymore, but Brian Conley has moved on. Alive in Afghanistan as well as other similar media outlets. His company is called Small World News

Brian Conley is one of my heroes because he is relentless in his vision, and also he works with people from around the world.

His way of sharing news from places such as Afghanistan or Mexico is interesting, and his videos deserve more attention in my opinion. But I also hope that his model and the model of others who are trying similar projects can spread further, and that we can have ever more small-scale social media outlets from areas around the world.

Who knows, maybe you and 4 friends of yours from your city can use a regular digital camera, a computer and a youtube-account to share with us fragments of your world.

Great share Raymond. I hope you'll reach out to Brian and let him know how he has inspired you.

Such a true statement about to say "Live from..." Let's celebrate the locals who report on their environment but also commend those who do travel from afar to live in those places long enough to truly understand and report.

@David: Oh, I agree. This is Nothing against people who fly in, spend a week in an area, report while there, and fly out again. I am simply in favor of a wider ecosystem of information available. Where you have other options than the CNN news and camera positioning.

@Gene: Yeah, I have had contact with Brian for the last couple of years. I will send him the link to this thread :P Thanks!

I never thought of this "inside news method" before. Things like this make me expect a lot from games like evoke. Thanks for sharing

yes, we need to expect more from EVOKE than what is in 'the cards' already. we also need to make the reality of EVOKE closer to our own expections, dreams, visions. thats a part of why I today started an EVOKE guild (hehe), you can read more about it on my blog, or on the google docs

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
