Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

I've e-mailed the LifeWrap people about getting our hands on the actual product, how much it costs, training required to use it, etc.

Also, I've done some of the preliminary research in terms of my project for school: what postpartum haemorrhage is, the causes, prevention, management/treatment, and reasons why people die from it even though it's largely preventable and/or manageable.
A lot of it's quite medical though... are people interested? If yes, I can try translate from Medicalese to English...

Next part of the plan...

In Cape Town, where I live, we have the Peninsula Maternal and Neonatal Services (PMNS) looking after our moms and babies. This is a 3-tiered referral system, with 7 primary level facilities staffed by midwives, 2 secondary hospitals and 1 tertiary hospital staffed by nurses, doctors and specialists. At the primary level facilities, called Midwife Obstetrics Units (MOUs), they deal with normal healthy pregnancy and birth, and refer moms and babies with problems to secondary or tertiary levels.

I am going to consult the people in charge of the various MOUs to establish the following:

a) is post-partum haemorrhage (PPH) a problem in the setting?
b) what are the guidelines/protocols for managing PPH?
c) are they satisfied with the guidelines?
d) do they have the necessary resources to follow the guidelines?

In relation to the rest of South Africa, Cape Town (and the Western Cape) is pretty fortunate when it comes to public healthcare. So, this is possibly not the place with the biggest need.

But we'll just have to see what people say and take it from there...

Yumna, this sounds like a super interesting line of questioning! I'd love to hear what you find out. It'll be great to get conversations going from what you find out. (If anything, they may be able to point us in another direction if they're satisfied with the system you described? Either way, I'm sure there's lessons to be learned.) I'd love it if you posted info on what you've been researching. If it's not too too technical we may even be able to follow it, who knows!

You reminds me my mother. I like your real story. it contains good ideas. But I don't understant what it means to be a Peninsula Marternal.

Evoke COURGE point for taking action against the shameful loss of our mothers as they give life. I posted a blog "In Memorium" on this issue on interational women's day. In kenya 22 women die daily during child birth - most of these deaths can be preveneted. As a member of the Kenya chapter of the Global White Ribbon Alliance we have been advocating for maternal health issues to be put on the forefront since it has been the forgotten MDG in Kenya. I know there is a Chapter in South Africa. Perhaps you can join forces with them in this??

Yep! Shakwei is going to send me their contact info so I can email them about how we can be supportive through Evoke.

If anyone else is interested in contributing or accessing the materials for the LifeWrap event, please let me know. I have been tracking them in google doc**ents and will send you access to them. The great thing about it is that I will give you editing powers so we can all contribute to the list! :)

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
