Before this weeks homework assignment I thought that Boston was not well prepared, in light of
events like this. What caused this calamity was poor leadership. Knowing that the snow storm was due it was recommended that schools & businesses close early. By the time the snow hit the main roads of the city were already in gridlock. My mom was caught in traffic for seven hours, on a route that normally takes 15 minutes. The snow storm wasn't even a bad one, there was nothing special about it.
I knew that Boston must not be prepared for emergency if a little snow could shut the city down. So I jumped online to see how bad it really was.

Boston Disaster preparation -->
http://www.radioboston.org/shows/2009/08/11/disaster-preparedness/In this radio program they talk about how prepared are Bostonians for severe weather. They mention on this program that Bostons emergency plan was revised in 2007 after Katrina. It is also mentioned that as part of the department of homeland security's nation wide review Boston's plan was identified as national best practice.The plan includes zoned evacuations that are meant to limit the amount of traffic that is on the road at one time. I also know that MA has a very good emergency broadcast system (
that I know all about)
I am having a hard time finding specifics of the plan but I will keep looking.
Overall I am happy that the response plan is so highly reguarded although it would be nice if I could find it
