Earlier today I started a discussion on the importance of science & technology to all that we are doing in development and social innovation to resolve these global crises.
And it's important for me to act on what I'm saying. I'm currently evoking a global health solution. For one project I'm working on making pharmaceutical drugs cheaper and affordable in developing countries
http://www.healthimpactfund.org/But of course this is an initiative that uses market mechanisms to address a symptom--sickness and disease in developing countries. I love that people are working on the actual causes of such sickness like inadequate sanitation, poor hygiene, lack of food and calories, and lack of access to safe water.
I'm writing because I need help in another project that uses science & technology.
I'm working on curative research in HIV/AIDS.
I'm about to apply for a Gates Foundation Grand Challenges Exploration seed grant.
http://www.grandchallenges.org/explorations/Pages/Introduction.aspxMy research is in an innovation in molecular biophysics, and I focus on coming up with zany ideas.
This is why I like the Gates Foundation because they fund unorthodox ideas.
I'm looking for a structural biologist or scientist who has access to atomic force microscopy (AFM) instruments. I need to determine the stress-strain relationship of the HIV virion (i.e. does it act like a sponge, more like concrete, etc.). Even though AFM is used for visualization it can also be used to determine this stress-strain relationship. If you do this and can conduct this experiment with me or know of someone who is willing and able, let me know.
And if you are a doctor, biologist, etc. and want to collaborate in this work on this grant, let me know.
Help me to evoke and aid in efforts for better global health.
As always, Happy Evoking.
