Chinese Seniors at "Outdoor Gym" Generate Electricity For Local TVs

Six exercise bikes lined up in the street of Beijing's Fengtei district look in this video clip like toys with their bright purple and chartreuse components, and the senior citizens riding the bikes certainly don't seem like they are trying to get anywhere fast - in the clip they are barely pushing the pedals hard enough to keep the bikes in motion.

But these retirees are proud that they are not only getting exercise to maintain their health - they are also generating around 180 watts of power per hour, saved to a row of batteries that are later dropped off to low-income local residents to run TVs and other electric devices. It's senior power at its best.

That is so cool! How amazing would it be to solve the obesity and heart health challenges that are emerging in so many countries while also creating more energy independence? This is one of my favorite projects I've seen on the EVOKE network. I would love to see this kind of fitness-volunteer opportunity worldwide. What about installing them at airports where people are waiting for planes? They could use some physical activity before boarding, burn up that energy before a long seated flight! There are so many possibilities... I want to look into this further! So exciting.

I could see this one being a very marketable idea- exercise equipment provided openly that provides power would be welcome in a variety of places. I think almost anywhere travel related or where it's inconvenient to exercise could use these.

This sort of set up would be awesome at any place where waiting in line was part of the experience. Or make a cheap enough version for home use that would be connected to tvs and computers.

LOL Maybe they could install this sort of set up at amusement parks and actually run some of the equipment.

Thanks for the comment Agent Sterley - there is an actual US business model for doing this.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development.The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
