Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

Last August, a Canadian researcher published an article on the mathematics of a Zombie Outbreak. Of course, the Zombie Outbreak was of the modern variety, rather than the Vodou variety, and what he found was that, based on his model, civilization would likely be doomed. In the same vein, let's consider how Ushahidi might be used to deal with such a development in New York.

Some things Ushahidi would be useful for tracking:

Locations and numbers of the undead-- for individual safety and tracking the outbreak
Locations and status of shelter locations and medical facilities-- this could also include realtime tracking of numbers at these locations and supplies
Status of various roads for purposes of evacuation
Areas of civil unrest/violence which may develop
Status of the utility grids around the city
Quarantine zones-- their locations and the performance of barricades
Locating isolated/trapped groups, to assist in rescue efforts
Latest reports on techniques for defeating the undead

I'm sure there are other ways this could be incredibly valuable... if only the protagonists of the various "Dead" movies had had access to something similar!

My husband got a hold of this report and we read the entire thing together. He's in emergency management and it actually applies to some of the training he does.

I would like to see similar reports on alien takeovers and epic solar flares.

Yeah! Something like this obviously isn't going to happen, but some of the issues, as far as emergency management goes, are real. The question he posed in the paper... how would this new epidemic progress... is real, and the results were interesting, so I figured "why not see what we could do with this tool for a similar epidemic?"

Consider it a stand-in for a deadly disease, civil unrest, collapse of utility infrastructure and civil order... what else would we want to know in real time?

Actually, I had not expected this, but somebody else has already started something called zombiereports using Ushahidi

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
