A crash course in changing the world.
The inventors, who are members of the Filipino Inventors Society (FIS),
displayed and operated their gadgets before government representatives
at the Department of Energy (DoE) grounds.
DoE Secretary Angelo Reyes is encouraging research and development by Filipino inventors in
order to save energy for the country, specifically to be less dependent
on imported fuel.
In authorizing the demonstration of the new inventions, Reyes said, "the DoE is not yet endorsing any of the
products until such time as we have ascertained that the products meet
government standards."
Reyes stressed, however, that Filipino inventors should be given encouragement and possible government
assistance to develop products that meet the needs of society both in
the Philippines and abroad. He added the need to make savings in energy
consumption is imperative because of the high cost of energy in the
global market.
Led by Orlando Marquez, who invented the air-conditioned jeepney, other inventions include the WONDERLUBE, an
invention by Ricky Punzalan, which was designed for cars so they can run
without oil and water. The product was given a practical demonstration
at the DoE motor pool so that witnesses could see for themselves how the
devices work and how they can save energy.
AIREGAS Catalytic Combustion, invented by Leopoldo and Hernando Bacuan, designed to reduce
pollution and intake of fuel. Leopoldo claimed that savings on fuel
would amount to 20 percent of the normal consumption. Savings would also
result from avoidance of preventive maintenance.
BIOACTIV Diesel Exchanger aims to reduce visible smoke and harmful gases. It boosts
power and gives an accelerated response. The product has been accredited
by the DoE and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources
(DENR). The device is considered a clean and burning fuel enhancer,
which is derived from vegetable oil. It cleans, lubricates and
oxygenates the fuel, which then results in a more efficient combustion,
longer mileage and cleaner emission.
The NUTEC Energy Savings Device prolongs the life of fluorescent lamps up to seven years,
according to its inventor, Eric Ngo. "This device lights lamps without
flickers and cuts electricity consumption by as much as 30 to 40
percent," Ngo said.
During the demonstration, a blasted lamp was lighted in view of everyone. The lamp, claimed Ngo, could still be
lighted as long as the gases inside are still intact.
Because of its long lifetime, the lamp can save the consumers money by avoiding the
need for frequent replacements.
