San Antonio does not face a shortage of food. Our issue is the cost of healthy food vs unhealthy. In San Antonio an apple is more expensive than candy. Those on the lower end of the socioeconomic scale find difficulty in paying for healthy meals.
This is an unfortunate side effect of the industrialization of the food supply.
Last year I started a family garden. I found that growing some of my own food was cost saving. It also provided some light exercise working in the garden. My two year daughter enjoys watering the plants with me in afternoon after school.
