I'm learning more about food security. Food security is a lack of food
of a community. Since American have been in a economic crisis for a
while, the percentage of food security have increased. Food security is
happening around the world, and believe it or not, it can be happening
in your neighborhood. Food security can be helped by the wh***
community support. There are two quotes that caught my attention about
food security, One article is about the youth and how are they helping
with poverty, government etc and the other is about food security in my
neighborhood.
"This week, the
One Young World conference is being held in London.Young people from
around the world have met to discuss the biggest challenges facing the
planet, with the guidance of eminent figures such as Kofi Annan,
Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus and Alejandro
Toledo, the former president of Peru.
It's great to see parents
and politician helping on world issues such as poverty, health care,
and etc, but when you see young people getting together trying to fix
these issues, its wonderful. I love to to see young people getting
together trying to make a difference in the world, because we are the
next generation. I think we need more of these youths.
"The
number of emergency meals provided to the city's hungry has jumped in
every borough since 2006, with the Queens tally topped only by that in
the Bronx, which saw a 110% boost. In Brooklyn the jump was 75% and in
Manhattan 62%. The smallest increase was 29% for Staten Island. "
When
I read this passage, I was surprised. I know we are in a economic
crisis, but I didn't know New York was food insecure. I'm in a middle
class family, so me and my family never experience any lack of food
yet. It's sad to know this. I'm also surprise because Queens has the
highest food deficit. I can't really tell because every where I go
people look healthy. When I go to grocery stores, people carts is full
of food and I see people go cloths and sneaker shopping like crazy
