Since Matopo is facing severe food shortages , i have decided to collaborate with various stakeholders in the town and invent a Disaster Detection centre (Ushaidi). This powerful new tool will be used to share information about food shortages and their severity in the small town.
The centre will focus on data about food levels in storages, and disseminate it to the local community so that they can prepare for the coming disaster. The centre will gather information about the amount of food consumption in the town and then compile a population statistic of the area, so that comparison can be made of the food consumed and the number of people in the area. If there is deficit of food, the community of Matopo will be alerted through pamphlets and flyers that will be distributed in the area. This instrument will be communicated in the local language and people will be made aware of the deficit the town is facing.
The disaster detection centre will make sure that information is communicated early to avoid casualities. The Ushaidi team will be dispersed in every corner of the area to inform people about the severity of the food shortages in the area. People will be given ways (solutions) to avert disaster hence information of high importance will be disseminated through all forms of medium and the centre will liase with other disaster focused organisations to supply the food to the area.
