A few years back, I joined the St Vincent de Paul's 'Vinnies Van'
project. This when local supermarkets donate food, which is then
prepared, and delivered to homeless people, who sometimes have to eat
out of the garbage.
There is more that could be done- a food stamp system like what is used in the US, would be economically benificial for the lower educted population, who simply spend more on consumer goods when given cash handouts. This is evident, with the lower percentile who live off government money, having the best conc**er goods. In the paper was a couple who were 'struggling with morgage repayments' but had a new flat pannel TV behind them in the profile picture.
