Food tastes a lot cleaner these days. I remember a time when tomatoes still had earth on them. The food crises hit the wh*** world at once, even the powerful nations had to beg for food. a single cherry costing more than an ounce of gold. Those were strange times.
I take another bite, I miss the taste of the earth. Peas are still green, pumpkin still torment children across the globe, although the kids seem to eat anything these days. I guess once you had to go hungry, really hungry, for a few years you no longer think food, any food, is disgusting.
I do miss the root vegetables. Potatoes did not take kindly to the hydroponics. Meat is another thing I really miss. Livestock did not make it through. There are speculation about cloning animals, but nothing has come of it.
My plate is full, my stomach too, so I find myself ungrateful. I would do well to remember the lessons learned during the famine.
Tomatoes, nuts, pumpkin, there is more than enough for everybody. I should be grateful but I still miss meat.
