A crash course in changing the world.
In 2020 I will still be living in my hometown of Buffalo, NY, but many parts of the city will be barely recognizable. The vacant and boarded up homes that once littered neighborhoods will be renovated. The poverty that once plagued our streets will be nearly eradicated. The political inertia that keeps us from finding innovative solutions to problems will be a thing of the past.
Many of the new initiatives that will bring about these changes will be the result of a new kind of online collaboration designed to tackle urban problems. The focal point for this collaboration will be a website called ReBuffalo.org, which will be designed in a way that makes it easy for citizens to turn ideas and passions into goals and projects.
Over the course of the next ten years ReBuffalo.org will undergo a similar transformation, from an idea in my head to a web based tool that not only facililtates change in Buffalo, NY, but also in other urban areas that are facing similar challenges. ReBuffalo.org will be a model of online collaboration that others cities will build off of. In then years the city of Buffalo will be reinvigorated, restored, and renewed. In other words, in the next ten years the citizens of my hometown will ReBuffalo.
