My best case scenario in ten years would be to continue working with the charity that we started in memory of our friend and helping others through the somewhat confusing maze of setting up a charity (
http://www.stlcharity.org/ in case you're wondering, devoted to cervical cancer). What help could I offer to help with a food crisis in Tokyo? I would guess a good network of people and groups that are willing to help. Through our own charity we have had great success by simply networking with others so that none of us are carrying all the burden, making every situation or event that we do a win-win for all involved. Facing an issue like a food crisis is no simple task, it would need to involve not only great involvement from goverments but also the many little hands of all of the people. Assuming in this situation that Japan is still a rich country, my fear would be that they would simply buy up food from a crooked leader in the third world to feed themselves but leave a different country in just as bad a situation. There is no quick fix to this problem, it is something that needs to be addressed now...if every country could at least sustain their own people then the buying and selling of food might balance out (barring blight, drought, etc...). In this situation, I would do what was asked of me, but I fear that at the point that there is a food shortage in a large first world city in a rich country, it would be a difficult task.
