Joining this project late has allowed me to read up on other peoples ideas, blogs, and comments and I have come to a conclusion. I do not believe that massive changes are needed to the Farming or Agricultural areas, instead I believe that distribution is the problem.
Todays countries believe that bigger is better, but after looking at the most successful things in todays society, I believe that small is the way to go. there has been discussion about decentralizing the food growing operation but this is not really a feasible solution. Too many people and very hard to regulate in any meaningful manner, I have to admit this solution bugged me .... But at the same time I found a spark of an idea.
Instead of decentralizing the growing of the food and all the complications that would entail. I would suggest decentralizing the distribution network instead. Yes, there will still be lots of work to do and still leaves us open to environmental disasters. But this solution allows us to change slowly over time. Farmers often lack business skills or desires to negotiate multiple contracts for crop sales.
Governments will have to stop giving subsidies to farmers that do not grow crops, or Government contracts being awarded to farmers that hold prime farming land to produce industrial grade crops.
Restaurants or other food distribution nodes should be held responsible for the quality of their products. All food prices should be government regulated.Violating food security issues should bring forth many types of punishment including but not limited to : Harsh Fines, Liscence revoke, Imprisonment.
Bigger just ends up costing more.
