International Network on Appropriate Technology (Water Initiatives)
This past weekend I attended the 4th annual symposium of the International Network on Appropriate Technology. Many presentations were made, and among them were various water purification systems. One that stood out was a solar-powered Ice Maker that turned water into clean ice, so that people in rural and remote parts of the world can refrigerate food and milk. The ability to have refrigerated food and milk also helps to generate local economies, as people can sell more of their food products (since they can store more over time) without compromising the quality or safety of the products.
However, the group is still in a fledgling phase, and I volunteered to connect the innovators through online networking.

Thanks for sharing this with the network. Until I saw this TED Talk, I didn't realize how important refrigeration is to health clinics for the keeping of vaccines and other medicines.
On a somewhat related note, the cultural production of cheese in many parts of the world is linked to the problem of excess milk production and distribution. There were once a very large number of dairies that made cheese in England but these dairies became much fewer in number once the railways of England were established, local dairies could sell their milk to larger cities. It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal.
