A crash course in changing the world.
“Good morning. And happy Canada Day, honey!” I said to my husband, who was just waking up, “I made you chocolate chip pancakes!”
“Wow, really? With the new stove?” he asked me.
“Yeah, it works so well! It was charging all yesterday in the sun and it held that charge surprisingly well overnight.” I told him.
We had just purchased a solar-powered camping stove the past weekend and thought we would try it out and go camping for Canada Day- and leave our kids at my mom’s.
“I can’t wait to try it out making sausages and s’mores later!” he said.
We bought the stove so that we wouldn’t have to bring a heavy canister of propane in our electric-powered SUV into the wilderness. Our local camping store had such a wide selection of products that use more renewable energy sources.
For instance, our water purification system is powered by the current in the stream/river itself. It filters the water and then sterilizes it with a UV lamp. It’s pretty neat! And at night in
our tent we make the heat and light we need with biofuel we picked up from our
local provider back in the city.
This Canada Day turned out to be the most energy-efficient camping trip we’d ever had. And we couldn’t wait to get home and check out some more products at the camping store!
