A crash course in changing the world.

Learn 6 - Indian Lesbian magazine (We are Here and Queer)

Women are being empowered everywhere. I want to report on an empowering magazine that is coming out called JIAH.It speaks for the LGBT community in India and around the world. If women are to be free it's the radicals who have to push the frontiers. They are pilloried but because of that finally the ordinary, the poor, the underprivileged and the underserved get their just due. It has a cascading effect that we also call the domino effect .JIAH advertises WHAQ - We are HERE And (we are ) QUEER. They are here to change, make a difference

The links I'm giving are of the reasons for the launch of this magazine which unknowingly harks back to the best work of writers like Helene Cixous taking a very post-modern and avant garde form. One of the writers is straight and admits that she found happiness only after coming into this community of writers, artists, thinkers etc.

The April volume is glossy and sleek but its content is dynamic and worth perusing, both to see the changing face of India and to understand that women cannot be held back anymore. As PJE shared if the millionaires would give away their money the poor would have enough , in the same way if men would give away their historical cultural capital in the form of the idea that men are superior, the women who are the majority of the population in the world today would quickly be able to erase the gap between their rights and what they actually have.

Since no woman has dared post a comment, I will.
Gay people are one of the most intelligent, brave and committed to humanity population,
this is a touchy issue, because the moment that women and gays stand up to the
establishment, it will be the last moment of the establishment.
Long live the LGBT community and all the thinking, supporting beings around it.

I am not gay but I respect the rights of gay people. People should not be sequestered by names like queer or gay, or fat, or stupid, or ignorant. People should be known by what they do with thier time on earth. did they help someone? did they grow and change for the better? I know of what I speak. you are suspect if you are a single female. why are you not married or with a man OH you must be gay! God came so that all should come and none should be lost. It is not up to us to judge. We all have our "hidden secrets" and we are all sinners. If you think you are not then you are deluded. My point is, live and let live, do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Judge not lest ye be judged!!!!

thank you so much for talking about LGBT issues. gender inequality and gender stereotypes are intertwined with women's rights issues.

when a group of people are deprived of rights and made into second-class citizens, we all lose.

"do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
I declare this the first time that someone calls out THE GOLDEN RULE in Evoke.
If anyone can find another mention of this concept in Evoke, I would like to hear from you
Comment by A.V.Koshy on April 9, 2010 at 6:34am
yes. thanks ethan, sunny, and nomadhar
evoke is busy , i see
so i agree - first with ethan - do unto others like you have them do unto you
2. nomadhar: indeed - if any person even is deprived of his rights and made into a second class citizen we all lose
and sunny - not against is cool
let's really think aobut this issue
but where are the thinkers?
well, we can only try to spur thought

some don't mention the golden rule but try to act according to its precepts. Finally did quest5--surfacing for a minute... good to see everyone back here! hi all :)

Oh, and by the way, predisposition or choice, orientation has nothing to do with processes of thought, ethical behavior, or the golden rule, in a sustainable setting--if a person chooses a lesbian partner, a gay partner, a bi- or straight partner, or none at all, the person, as they express themselves in other settings, remains at surface unchanged. It is only when freedom of expression, rights of access, or exclusionary, discriminatory, or 'hate' practices are indulged and tolerated that orientation becomes an issue. One cannot be relegated to second class status without either a label or a stereotyping behavior being applied. If orientation is an unknown factor, it is irrelevant to the discrimination--other elements must have been considered. If orientation is known, and causally related to the discriminatory act, then there is an actionable finding. Boy--at 2:45 am and I still can spell. Okay--jump all over the defenseless soprano, now...
kidding again. Discrimination is a serious issue--so are marginalization, ostracization, and persecution. Thank you for the post, koshy

I agree with with Ethan.
But, Its not always easy to 'Stand up to the establishment', In places like India.
Like this recent story:

Comment by A.V.Koshy on April 9, 2010 at 7:28am
yes, samiran that is a very good link...
i know another case
from medak a professor went to the airport - he teaches in iit or iim and when he was collecting books and cds he was harassed saying they were indecent - he is gay and he was told they were pornographic etc...
this was in hyderabad airport
michele , in india one doesnt even differentiate in most places between things like orientation, choice etc....
most of it is swept under the carpet
talk is not encouraged
the issues could be resolved if open dialogue was allowed.

+1 courage. Gay/lesbian orientation is illegal in much of Africa sometimes punishable by death.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
