Flooding and landslides have proved to be huge
problems in our community. Many years ago the valley was closed off from other towns because flooding was so bad, no one could come in or out. To deal with this same problem in the future many things could be done, including creating a resilience plan for how to react. First, before the flooding season comes, people who live on hillsides could plant deep rooting shrubs and bushes to insure good holding soil, and prevent landslides. Sewage drains at street level should be cleaned out regularly to keep the streets from flooding as bad, and the city could install new drains in places where the water doesn’t disperse properly. Canned food should be in good supply along with other useful items in case of emergency. Maybe a homeless shelter could be built on high ground in order to help people without a place to go. Fruit trees would be awesome to plant in every yard because the fruit is off the ground, and wouldn’t be damaged in a flood as bad as a a vegetable bed or garden. Ojai should become more independent and not use as many things from out of town, because if a natural disaster strikes, nothing will be available.
