A favorite concept from the ideas presented is the third one from Amy Smith's "Rules for design in the developing world" which says: "Do the hard work needed to find a simple solution."
Someone I greatly admire once said: "Work will win when wishy-washy wishing won't." I doubt the world will ever find a suitable substitute for work - especially when you are working on a solution to a problem that really matters. There is an increase in energy that is both physical as well as metaphysical. It even becomes a bother to stop to eat or sleep.
Simple solutions are always best, because they are not only easy to learn, but they are also easy to teach. If an idea is hard to teach, you have limited the number of people who can do so; but an easy concept can be taught by almost anyone, thus greatly increasing the number of available teachers. That is a great asset when a concept needs to be shared with as many people as possible.
Thank you, Amy, for generating some thoughts.
