A crash course in changing the world.
Scott Warren is a 25 year old man from the Forbes 30 under 30 list who created an ingenious idea on how to get high school students more involved in in civics. His idea was brought to life when he founded the group Generation Citizen. Generation Citizen goes into high school cla**** and has college students lead and teach civics cla**** based off actions that the students care about. Instead of the students learning about mundane topics have no interest in, they can pick what topics they chose to learn and act upon. His idea is that people need kinesthetic learning in order to get the most out of the subject, for example in physics, you need to conduct experiments so you can put practical application to what you are learning. Mr. Warren believes that if students get involved in the local election, they will learn so much more about how the political process actually works, and can see how it affects those in the race, instead of reading about it in the book. People who care about the subject in front of them are more eager to learn, research and take action. In an interview with Echoing Green, Mr. Warren stated that they have impacted over 1,000 students in the Boston area in just two years and that they will continue to expand. I personally believe this is a great idea because I learn better by getting hands on with the subject and agree with the idea that students will learn more by choosing what they would like to get involved with.
