A crash course in changing the world.
I live in Germany. In Germany there is more and more "poverty". But in most cases we just dealing with relative poverty. In comparison to other countries, nobody has to get along with one dollar or less! Poor people in my country usually can satisfy their basic needs but lots of them suffer from imbalances in social exclusion. Who actually has no work is entitled to social assistance, unless he is illegal in Germany. Social assistance is a controversial topic in Germany but it helps a lot of people to lead a good life.
For people in famine, Germany has established the "Tafel". This Organization seeks balance. German people destroyed many tons of food each day, although they are still capable of consuming. The "Tafel" collect "surplus", but qualitatively acceptable food and give it to the beggars for free. Thousand of volunteers and sponsors make it possible. Currently there are over 880 "Tafeln" in Germany. All are non-profit organizations. Nationwide, they provide over 1.5 million needy people with food. As a needy you has to prove your poverty by an official doc**ent. But in general: The "Tafel" helps all those in need of help.
In addition, around 50.000 people in Germany are committed volunteer and donate their free time and know-how . Thus, German "Tafel" is regarded as one of the greatest social movements of our time! Any help is welcome. Have a look http://www.tafel.de/die-tafeln.html.
Hi Kim,
I like your blog post. The "Tafel" helps poor and homeless people to ease their sad living conditions.
But have you known that more and more seniore citizens are forced to make use of the "Tafel" services? Partially they a aren´t able to take care of themselfs with thier small pensions. Poverty among old people is an alarming but also a steady rising trend!
Hi Evelyn,
no, i didn't no that. Is it allowed for pensioner getting meal at the "Tafel"? Generally, a "Tafel"-guest has to proof his poverty by an official doc**ent. Do you know which doc**ent pensioner would give a proof? And what is the minimum pension to be allowed visiting the "Tafel"?
Hey Kim.
I don´t know exactly which terms are required to get food there. But I came across an article about this matter at the website of "Tafel". Currently about 12% of all "Tafel"customers are pensioner - and counting. Here is the link to the report: http://www.tafel.de/aktuelles/aktuelle-projekte/senioren.html
Curious! If we think about the increasing amount of pensioner, we have to find a new and maybe better solution for this problem.
Your totally right with your point! But how could we aproach such a problem?
I just found a website with which people can create fundraising campaigns for their social projects! http://www.aktion-deutschland-hilft.de/de/aktiv-helfen/interaktiv-h...
I think there are many organizations like this one. The problem of the pensioner in Germany is the dependence on our state. The state have to come up with solutions for them, because they have dissipated their money ;).
