Cultural adaptation.
I am from Sweden but have lived in the US, Japan and for the last 10 years in Taiwan. And if there is one thing I have learned from owning my own business in a foreign country it is that I have to adapt my ideas. It's not just things like "we don't have any X so we can't do Y".
Even if all resources and infrastructure is in place, there is no guarantee that you will be able to sell it to someone. And, even more frustrating, an outsider's idea on how to explain something to someone might fail completely. I can't count the number of times I have come up with some clever ad just to see it completely fail because it was what I wanted to see, not what our customers wanted to see.
So, I am brand new to this, but I hope there are lots of people from Africa on this site that can help the rest of us adjust our ideas and suggestions to the local culture and market.
Take care,
Elias
