"Innovate on existing platforms (We’ve got bicycles and mobile phones in
Africa, plus lots of metal to weld. Innovate using that stuff, rather
than bringing in completely new tech.)"
This was my favorite
social innovation secret. New doesn't always mean better. Thousands of
people reuse items everyday. Like using water bottles a few times before
throwing them away, giving old cell phones that still work, to people
that don't have phones, and don't want to spend the money buying them.
There are tons of ways to reuse, and that's what these people are doing.
Bringing new stuff in actually doesn't always help. It just wastes
valuable time we could be using, reassuring items and saving the
environment instead of destroying it.
