A crash course in changing the world.
I am 70 years old, so I don't remember the exact date...lol. But, it is March 2020. I am just setting the table for dinner on the porch again. I grab my sweater from the back of a chair in the kitchen as I collect the silverware and place mats for my husband, Howard, and I. Whoops, I nearly trip over the cat on my way out of the back door.
We are having our favorite Lowcountry Boil. We like this dish, because on our pensions we cannot afford much. Howard went shrimping this morning. Bless his heart. He is 86, you know! While he was out on the boat, I went to the local butcher to get nice sausages. There are no longer any "big box" grocery stores near us. The federal government outlawed "packaged" foods and preservatives a few years back. Fortunately, we have a small garden in our back yard, so we have home-grown corn and potatoes that we put up in the freezer last autumn. We will have sweet tea to drink. Now that trade with Cuba is easy, the sugar is cheap. However, because of the war, we can no longer get good Chinese tea. Instead, we use the kind we bought at the tea farm just outside of Charleston.
