The year is 2020, it's my sister's birthday and she is 26 years old today. Power is hard to come by lately and gas prices are sky rocketing. My family only comes to visit on certain occasions now rarely. Today they came though. Making it before it was too late in the day. The sun still high in the sky on that fall day. Just enough day light outside for our party, it took several days for my mom to find all the supplies for the cake. It was hot out that day but since the air conditioners never work at full capacity any more none of us bothered turning them on.
It was quiet outside, everyone in town had either moved on or were just trying to stay cool. We stayed quiet in the backyard, making sure not to draw any attention. Glad for the privacy fence that hid us from view, gangs were bad now days and our wind turbine had been breaking down a lot. Everyone has been panicking trying to get their power more reliable than it is. We've been the lucky ones though, we have enough power. The solar panels in our yard have to be guarded so they won't be stolen.
The electric grid has shattered into a million pieces and into a million types of different technologies. Everyone using something different now or a combination of technologies. Solar, pedal, bloom box generators if they are rich, wind generators and more. My sister's birthday was powered by these, making the air conditioner stay cool and the stove work. It was a nice to see everyone again, with so many moving away . ...
