We have duties to others and duties to ourselves; and we can shirk neither. We must show not only in our words, but in our deeds, that we are earnestly desirous of securing the good will of others by acting toward them in a spirit of just and generous recognition of all their rights. But justice and generosity count most when shown not by the weak but by the strong. Therefore, to truly make this an endeavor of lasting value, it must be in our capacity to show the weak that they are STRONG.
Why is it we still pay no attention to the rich and beautiful, yet ravaged nations of the world? Have we yet to learn that our true wealth is not found in gold, oil, or any other natural resource; but is found in the hearts and minds of the people of the world?
No, the problem of this world lies not in the deception of economists that say our resources are failing. It lies in the notion, that a single human life is not worth as much as all of the wealth of Babylon. I say, that human resource and resourcefulness must be the most important cultivation we can achieve.
Let no man leave this world without having served his fellow man. Through serving each other, and meeting those basic needs, we can begin to give a voice to those who feel they have no voice. We can teach them that the dreams they have do not exist solely in their mind, but they are actually the beginnings of a journey. One that will reach every soul should their dream not be one set in vanity. That if their dream is of a Supreme mind, then we can truly set the captives free.
Let us give of ourselves then. Let us give a hand up, not a hand out.
