So, I spent the last couple of days doing some background reading on Urgent Evoke to get a sense of what the overarching goals for it were and how I might fit in.
I know that the game is designed to address the most pressing problems facing the most impoverished people on the planet; that it's hoping to inspire and unlock the creativity and collaboration of anyone on the planet who can make a difference. I also am realistic about my availability to participate at that level.
But these issues [hunger, poverty, economic development, clean water, etc...] are issues that have been on my own personal radar screen for almost 2 decades. Issues I care deeply about. I may not be professionally employed in a field that has a direct bearing on these issues, and I may not have the freedom to uproot myself and join an on-the-ground endeavor. But there *must* be ways I can be part of the solutions. There are hundreds of thousands others like me -- and each of our small parts, together, can make a substantial and significant contribution [beyond texting $10 donations to Haiti].
My engagement in this game -- for the time being -- is to figure out what this might look like.
I have ideas and I need to carve out the time to write more about it.
I also am acutely aware that one should not re-invent the wheel. There are hundreds and thousands of already functioning organizations which are mobilized on these issues. Duplicating efforts is not a smart use of anyone's resources.
stay tuned.
