In geology class many years ago, we had a project like this. Sit around and brainstorm with some classmates how to power items - except it was how to power items on the moon - you know, just in case.
My friend and some of our classmates came up with what I still think is a good idea - to power things with noise! It would possibly require some power to begin with, but if was made to work so that the power required to generate it was minimal compared to the power it generated, then it would be an awesome ability.
So, we drew this crazy moon lander that looked much like an ATV or dunebuggy. In order to power this thing forward, you placed some large speakers on the back of it, and blasted some loud thumping (bass heavy) music. The bass would drive the cart forward without requiring any gas/power. If you think about the amount of heavy bass produced in one song, and compare it to the small amount of electricity it takes to play that one song, it would make sense that it would generate far more than it needed.
If you could use this idea to power windmills or something similar when there wasn't any wind - it could have the ability to store the electricity created. Or so the theory goes.
