A crash course in changing the world.
The Water Project partnered with Living Water International provides a discretionary fund where they pay $3,000 per damaged well in the region. In most circ**stances, the repairs are actually either overhauls of severely-damaged wells, or the complete replacement of them. If it is the latter and happens to be a water pit the well must be cased in an enclosure, capped to prevent the water from escaping back into the topsoil and have a hand pump attached to access the resource. During this process communities are given training for the work when building new wells, so they can assist in its development, and then a follow-up to help with sustainability concerns. The project also addresses the fallout from the war, by training child-soldiers and women in how to properly build and maintain the wells.
By providing the equipment to repair broken wells and educate inhabitants of settlements proper hygiene and health when using them, the result is that the relief effort ensures people are given the help they need to get started, and the expertise to sustain a better water supply for them and their children.
