A crash course in changing the world.
Listen to the right people - that's most essential. We can reasonably extend this principle to every task and every problem.
In fact, we have only three strategies available:
1. Act based on insight. Obviously, worst choice. Until you have very broad expirience in problem area, we should not trust our insights - unless you find some right people and they'll confirm that you are right.
2. Study all necessary things yourself. Consumes tons of time, develops you as a person, but not as effective as we want in solving problem - your solution might be obsolete and irrelevant when you finally came to it.
3. Find the right people, engage them into the solving of the problem. That's almost always the perfect choice if you're able to accomplish all communication tasks involved.
That's it.
P.S. Second and third positions in my top are:
Think creatively: start big, use constraints as a filter and find the simplest solutions. - almost scientific approach. :)
Peripheral vision; keep a look out for other challenges or new solutions all the time. - maintaining focus on the broader view would show you what you will miss otherwise.
