Secret Code of innovation: Biomimicry - if somebody (Nature) already invented it, you don’t have to
Biomimicry evangelist Janine Benyus published in 2002, a interesting view of how we can apply the advances in Nature to the technological development of humans. One way to integrate technology with nature and make a more sustainable society.
If we compare a photovoltaic cell with a leave, we will realize quickly that our technology is infinitely less developed, can sometimes be more efficient, but will always be made from materials that we can not find locally and mainly comprise only a part of all the needs we have, and as we build them it forms a puzzle that ends up being unsustainable. It can be quite debatable concept, but we must not forget that natural systems gain the maximum performance with minimum energy expenditure.
So Biomimicry as a concept, tries to reconcile the development of our society towards a sustainable and efficient model Inspired by Nature.

This is a great post, biomimicry is an excellent way to use energy more efficiently, I recently saw a picture of the Eastgate shopping mall in Zimbabwe which uses air flow mechanisms adapted from termite mounds to keep the building cool with no maintenance costs or electricity.
But on top of that, why do we construct buildings that keep the lights on for hours in the middle of the day? We've had the most powerful light source in the solar system shining bright for millions of years and yet our buildings today are built to use light bulbs 18 hours a day instead of the 6 or so hours before and after the sun comes out. Nature already invented the Sun, why do we put down the blinds and turn on the light?

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal.
