What you have matters more than what you lack - Faced with the imbalances of global north and south, it's clear that this is a key secret to social innovation where crisis exists - Where social innovators should excel is where there is no hope to be found, to create positivity from nothing, and to encourage others through their enthusiasm.
this does not only apply in terms of countries with a low GDP however. Relative poverty in countries that are often seen as World leaders is often overlooked. What is important within those communities is 'What you have matters more than what you lack' - Where councils and local governments cannot justify funding for a project that improves the quality of life for people who suffer under poverty, innovation, talent and resourcefulness are key to supplementing the lack of interest by those that have the power to change.
Perhaps what is most identifiable in areas where poverty exists, certainly in the relative poverty of Urban Britain is the strong sense of community. Where people feel that they have no hope, they are often united in their similar circ**stances, and as a result strive together to improve life for themselves, resulting in fantastic community projects that secure hope and promote enterprise within that community.
On a personal level, half of my family being in Prison camps during WWII, I've been brought up holding dear the concept of 'what you have matters more than what you lack' - hearing stories of people being reduced to nothing, and having nothing, but willing themselves to survive through love and desperation, and what you will always have, that nobody can take away from you are your emotions, thoughts and feelings, which I believe are the most valuable tools in working towards social innovation.
