Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

By using the motion which is required to use a mouse, we can create a cordless mouse which doesn't require batteries. I can see 2 ways of doing this, and will try at least the first one.

1. Using the old ball type of mouse as an example, if you were to have a wireless mouse, which had a ball underneath it (only for the power generation, you could still use a laser for accuracy), and attached rollers to the ball, you could move a small generator. You could do the same with the wheel on the top of the mouse, and if you really needed more power, you could even install some "shocks" to the mouse to capture the power generated from vertical movement which people might even consider a comfort option.

2. The 2nd way I can see doing this would be more difficult for me to try, but seems like it might be more efficient. Instead of using the rolling of a ball under the mouse, it might be more efficient to use some kind of kinetic power generation (like automatic watches)...and if this is feasible perhaps even something like this:

http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/06/tiny-generator-turns-vibrations-...

With either implementation, I would still have a small battery to store the power generated and make sure the power was constant. However, the battery also serves as a means to entice the user to engage with the mouse, as there would be a few meters on the mouse. One to show the amount of power being generated as they are using it, and a second showing the battery power so they can see as they are filling up the battery by their usage.

Thats a really good idea! I'd buy one... the only problem I could see would be that the first option would still need a battery of some sort, and that battery would have to be compatible with intermittent trickle charging.

Some batteries don't like that...

Nick, thanks for the comment, I didn't realize that was one of the major issues. I see that Nokia has put some time in to research this sort of thing, I'll be sure to take a look at the patent if/when it gets approved and do more research. Here's the article in case anyone's interested.

I definitely think there's a market for a mouse that doesn't need fresh batteries every couple of months. This could be especially useful in the third world where batteries are sometime hard to get or pricey.

Not to mention the fact that they're toxic waste if not disposed of properly (and they rarely are). My heart almost broke when I saw a pile of rotting batteries right next to an ancient well on the island of the sun in Bolivia... education on these things is so important.

I like this idea, though I agree with the comments.
there is a system (very new, I just say it on TED) that can send electricity wireless. with that sort of tech, you could send power to the computer itself or the table. it's a far fetched idea, but it would compliment this post nicely.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
