A crash course in changing the world.
I live in Lagos where the city is densely populated and there is little land for arable farms and gardens but efforts should be made to add to the solution to food insecurity.
I worked out on setting a snail culture. Snails are very slow moving creature. Many species hibernate during the colder months of the year. They cover their bodies with a thin layer of mucus which prevents them from drying out. They are found to hibernate in every unfavourable weather condition and this is one of the reasons why they have been able to survive for more than 60 million years.
They have reproductive organs of both male and female which categorize them as hermaphrodites. They mate with another and then both of them will have the ability to lay eggs.
Snails eat plants, fruits, vegetables and algae. Plants that are decaying are often a very good meal for them. They can equally eat the dirt when they can not find much to consume.
Snails form good delicacies and are quite expensive in local restaurants in Lagos. Increased production will reduce the price and increase its consumption.
I have passed this idea to a couple of people who I am assisting in setting their own snail farm.
