4.Innovate on existing platforms (We’ve got bicycles and mobile phones in Africa, plus lots of metal to weld. Innovate using that stuff, rather than bringing in completely new tech.)
Bring in new technology to a culture not very familiar with it can be damaging. First of all, there is an old saying to "use what you got to get what you want." People in this culture are not familiar with modern technology -- at least for the villagers, or the common folk. They are accustomed to the plain and simple, the easiest and less complicated of all things.
The social innovation note says there are bicycles and mobile phones in Africa. There's also lots of metal available to weld. With creative minds, there can be modes of transportation developed with what is available, adding of course wheels and other pieces of equipment that's available. Africans are creative in those types of things (I have seen them on television).
As for cell phones, there are various centers that collect cell phones. Although I do not know the process, these cell phones are being collected to give to those in need; how they are set up is a mystery. We can encourage even the more individuals to donate MORE cell phones by way of flyers in local markets in each of our areas with the simple language of what, why and where to donate. We can also talk to family members and friends for donations (we all have cell phones).
So with all of this, by using our own resources (what we got) to get what we need (using our creative to develop what's needed), we can get the jobs at hand done.
