Embrace market mechanisms (Giving stuff away rarely works as well as selling it.)
hmm, it's important to read this carefully. market mechanisms. these are rules and structures that allow us to build infrastructure. money is not what we are talking about here.
for instance, open source software and hardware is often much more robust and waaaaay less expensive than proprietary.
Giving things away isn't a good idea. but you don't need to sell people a product, you need to sell people on the idea of learning, of personal empowerment through understanding and control of what they do own.
many of the other ideas in this exhibit can be encompassed by following that concept. you want things to be inexpensive, teach them how to build it themselves; you want things to be culturally viable, let the people learn and they will make it their own.
