A crash course in changing the world.
Lack of food security is one of the biggest problems which facing 21 century. Especially, developing countries and undeveloped countries are suffering from lack of food security.
Food security exists when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to enough safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy lifestyle. [World Food Summit, 1996]
Therefore, we can say that the poor has high rate of inaccessibility of food. For the more than 800 million people who do not get enough regular, healthy food, ill health and a shorter life expectancy are real risks. Children, and especially very young children, who suffer from food insecurity, will be less developed than children of the same age who have had sufficient food. They will most likely be shorter and weigh less, and be less able physically and intellectually, because of poor nutrition.
My objective is “Describe the biggest challenge to food security in your own local community/country.” For solutions to solve food insecurity, first, Thailand should start new police related to rice in order to raise rice production to meet increasing domestic consumption and to maintain an exportable supply.
Second, Thailand should protect the area for agriculture for future generation without being developed. Also, Thai government should promote efficient water use, improve fertilizer and harvest management.
There are some innovation solutions that are already underway. For example, Thailand is striving to improve food production to ensure food security, as well as food safety, at the same time. Three strategies call for food quality and safety, food security, and food education.
As an agriculture-based country, Thailand attaches great importance to food security issues. The current economic crisis has emerged as a challenge to the agriculture sector and food security. Thailand is ready to share its responsibility, in the spirit of regional and international cooperation, to tackle this problem and ensure its aim to supply food to the world.
Thailand began to enforce the Agricultural Standards Act in August last year, involving mainly food safety through the registration of products and standard inspection and certification. The Act will benefit all relevant sectors, including farmers, manufacturers, and exporters, as well as government agencies, who have to upgrade the standards of Thai agricultural goods to be recognized by both local and international consumers.
