When considering the food of the future I really am having a hard time predicting what will happen. There are two trends that I can foresee becoming dominant philosophies; lab synthesized food which is cheap to produce and supplies all of the nutrients our bodies require, and mass local farming initiatives that seek to put rich natural foods on every plate.
Surprising I don't actually have a preference and since the two philosophies are not mutually exclusive what might happen is a combination of both. Some populations seeking to utilize the synthesized products other completely rebelling against the idea and striving to have a 100% organic diet.
Although the big deciding factor is whether or not the sythesized food products are as safe and healthy, if they are not, well then the trend towards organic will dominate.
